Stories of the Somali Diaspora: Photographs by Abdi Roble concluded a year-long national tour at the Plains Arts Museum in Fargo, ND on January 24, 2010. Other tour stops included Bates College Museum of Art in Lewiston, ME and the Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis, MN.
Stories of the Somali Diaspora: Photographs by Abdi Roble consisted of 55 images documenting Somali immigrants as they adjust to living in the United States while protecting their cultural heritage. Also featured was a look at one family’s journey from a refugee camp to their new lifestyle in the United States.
This exhibition was organized by Arts Midwest in cooperation with the Columbus Museum of Art.
About the Photographer
Abdi Roble immigrated to the United States from Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1989 and later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he developed his passion for photography and founded the Somali Documentary Project in 2003.
