Here are your top ten tips for getting the most out of the Arts Midwest Conference in Minneapolis, September 4-7, 2019.
There’s Wi-Fi this year at the Minneapolis Convention Center, including the Marketplace! Thanks to the sponsors who helped make this possible. The 1.5 Mbps service allows for light internet browsing and email, but not streaming. You can order a dedicated line or higher bandwidth from SmartCity if needed, and the password will be posted on signs at the registration desk.
Don’t miss the pitch sessions
There is a pitch session each day when the Marketplace reopens to all attendees in the Pitch and Professional Development Lounge inside the exhibit hall, and each one is a little different. They’re designed to encourage attendees to engage and connect with each other in new ways.
Search the app
The Conference app is back with all of the features you love, including sorting showcases by discipline and creating a personalized schedule, but did you know you can do a master search of the entire guide? This is an easy way to look up everything associated with a particular artist or organization. Your phone may be slightly different, but look for the search icon on the main menu.
Getting around downtown
You can take the provided shuttle from the Hilton to Spotlight Showcases at the Pantages Theatre, or if you prefer it’s a .5 mile mostly flat path from the hotel to the theater. We recommend taking pedestrian-friendly Nicollet Mall to 7th Street and avoiding most of the construction on Hennepin.
Find the “hidden” lounge
Need a minute to step away? There are other events going on at the Minneapolis Convention Center, but there’s a space called Lounge A on the second floor that’s reserved for us and is available if you need to find a relatively removed and quiet spot for a bit.
Say hi at an affinity group meeting
After the suggestion from many attendees, a block of time (Thursday, September 5, 4:30-5:15 p.m.) is devoted to affinity group meetings this year. There’s no formal program or agenda, and they function like a meet-up for those who share personal or professional identities to connect.
Where’s the shuttle?
The shuttle buses will pick up and drop off from the Hilton’s 11th Street Entrance, which is located right under a skyway.
Shipment and printing
If you need it, there’s a UPS Store conveniently located on the second floor of the Hilton Minneapolis and. You’ll see it if you take the skyway in between the convention center and hotel. They also have a location at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Coffee + Tea = Good
Conferences are a lot of work, but we have refreshments lined up for you starting with continental breakfast at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings.
Visit Arts Midwest
Unfortunately we can’t bring everyone to Arts Midwest’s offices in Uptown Minneapolis, but we do want you to come by our booth and say hello! We’re right next to Mid-America Arts Alliance in Exhibit 100.
