December 2011 Spotlight: Tuesday Musical Association + Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

Tuesday Musical Association in Akron, Ohio, presented Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in September 2011. This Performing Arts Fund-supported engagement featured a public performance at EJ Thomas Hall at the University of Akron that kicked off Tuesday Musical Association’s season, plus two in-depth educational activities. The mission of Tuesday Musical Association, a volunteer-managed nonprofit classical music organization, is to provide a premier concert series for the community, a comprehensive educational and scholarship program for young people, and performing and listening opportunities for its members and guests. Tuesday Musical’s early history reflects what was happening in other communities across the country: many had a presenting organization similar to Akron’s Tuesday Musical Club. The difference today is that the Tuesday Musical Association continues to bring world-class performers to its community while sustaining multiple educational roles. It is one of only a handful of such presenting organizations remaining, and one of the very few that continues to be volunteer-managed.
