April 2012 Spotlight: Renaissance Performing Arts Association + L.A. Theatre Works

Renaissance Performing Arts Association in Mansfield, OH, presented L.A. Theatre Works in January 2012. This Performing Arts Fund—supported engagement included a three-day residency culminating with a public performance of The Rivalry, presented in the company’s signature “radio theatre” style, a unique hybrid form of audio theater featuring innovative use of technology. This riveting depiction of the Lincoln-Douglas debates uses dialogue from the original debate transcripts to bring to life the fierce competition between the future President and the incumbent Senator as they tackled the day’s most controversial issues: slavery and the American concept of freedom.

March 2012 Spotlight: Dickinson State University + Elisa Monte Dance

Dickinson State University in Dickinson, North Dakota, presented Elisa Monte Dance in January 2012. This Performing Arts Fund-supported engagement featured a public performance and 30 residency activities over five days. During the month prior to the residency, Dickinson State University worked with the community and conducted interviews, wrote articles, made presentations, and visited local high schools to promote the engagement.
