June 2013 Spotlight: Elgin Community College + American Place Theatre

Elgin Community College in Elgin, IL presented American Place Theatre in September 2012. This Arts Midwest Touring Fund—supported engagement featured a public performance and residency activities over five days. The Visual and Performing Arts Center at Elgin Community College provides residents of Chicago’s Fox Valley with a refreshingly different arts experience than can be found in the city or other regional arts centers. Their CenterStage lineup avoids tired reruns in favor of fresh, artistically relevant acts. The Arts Center pairs amenities, including gourmet dinners and a wine bar, with performances of the highest caliber. They aim to inspire, engage, and spark creative energy. Their primary focus is to present music and theater touring artists that represent diverse genres. Past artists presented includes: Red Baraat, Victor Wooten, Leo Kotke, Zili Misik, Rosanne Cash, Nellie McKay, Cinematic Titanic, Gaelic Storm, Naturally 7, and Under the Streetlamp.

May 2013 Spotlight: John Michael Kohler Arts Center + Luna Negra Dance Theater

John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, WI presented Luna Negra Dance Theatre in November 2012. This Arts Midwest Touring Fund—supported engagement featured a public performance and K-12 informance and performances over three days. For more than four decades, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center has presented performing artists from around the world for three-day to five-week residencies and performances. Artists they have presented includes Ragamala Dance Theatre, Thodos Dance Chicago, David Greenberger, Pat Graney Company, Gibney Dance Company, Compagnia TPO, Sachal Vasandani, and Compagnie Jant-Bi. The mission of their performing arts programming is to nurture innovative explorations of evolving traditions and contemporary forms in order to provide access to diverse audiences. It is achieved through the organization’s five presenting and a commissioning series.
