The Arts Midwest team is thrilled to share that Katie Ortman was recently promoted to Program Manager!
In just 16 months at Arts Midwest, Katie has repeatedly risen to the occasion — managing programs that bring international performing artists to the Midwest as well as supporting some of Arts Midwest’s partnerships and COVID-19 relief efforts.
Katie joined our team in early 2020 from Des Moines, Iowa, where she worked in arts programming and fundraising. After making the move to Minneapolis in January, she went right back to Iowa in February and managed the only week of live touring World Fest saw last year before COVID-19 suspended in-person programming.
With her energy and ideas, Katie has helped bring our international touring programs into a virtual space — collaborating across oceans and timezones to help Arts Midwest produce its first-ever World Fest Online series as well as program live, virtual connections between international artists and Midwestern classrooms.
Most recently, Katie led Folkefest, a residency featuring Finnish folk ensemble Kardemimmit that included collaborating with partners in central Minnesota on live stream concerts, virtual school workshops, and even a community baking project centered around Finnish Pulla bread.
Her promotion recognizes the many skills she brings to Arts Midwest and her commitment to helping our region connect with international artists even in the toughest of times.
