Read a letter from Angela Urbanz, Director of the Arts Midwest Conference, and Torrie Allen, President & CEO, about the decision to postpone registration and pivot to an online gathering.
To our community,
It feels like an understatement to say that the world has changed a lot since we began planning the 2020 Arts Midwest Conference in Omaha, Nebraska. Over the last nine months, the Arts Midwest team and our Conference Co-Chairs, committees, and showcase panel have poured ourselves into designing the best possible gathering for our field to connect, grow, and learn together.
However, it has become clear that the 2020 Arts Midwest Conference cannot move forward as an in-person event as we originally envisioned. Today is the day that we would have opened registration. Instead, we are hitting reset, and taking additional time to finalize work on an online alternative to the Conference.
Arts Midwest does not take the decision to go online lightly. . We know that our Conference can’t be easily replicated in a standard webinar format. Our team is working hard to find the right digital tools that fit the unique needs of our field in this moment, highlighting connection, networking, and discussion.
. We are collaborating with other key conferences and partners serving the performing arts field. We are also taking time to listen and learn from you. Two weeks ago, we sent out a survey to previous conference attendees in partnership with the Western Arts Alliance. Your feedback has been invaluable as we develop next steps.
As we make decisions on what the Arts Midwest Conference will look like this year, we will continue to keep you updated via email, our website, and social media. And, as always, if you have questions or feedback, you can reach us at [email protected].
Finally, we would like to give an extra thank you to our partners in Omaha, who will be welcoming the Arts Midwest Conference back in September of 2022 when we can explore the best of the city together.
We know that the last two months have been incredibly difficult, and the road to recovery will be rocky for us all. We are all looking forward to a future where we can gather again, whether at conferences, in venues, or with family and friends. Our main goal is to support you during this time, in whatever way we can. Thanks for being part of our community.
Wishing you health and wellness,
Angela Urbanz, Director, Arts Midwest Conference
