George Tzougros Joins Arts Midwest Board

Arts Midwest is thrilled to announce that George Tzougros, executive director of the Wisconsin Arts Board, has joined our Board of Directors. As leader of one of Arts Midwest’s member state arts agencies, Tzougros has a long history of collaborating with Arts Midwest on programs across Wisconsin and an ongoing commitment to Arts Midwest’s mission, vision, and values.

“I am honored to join the Arts Midwest Board and look forward to helping the organization fulfill its important mission for our region,” Tzougros said.

“We are pleased to welcome George to the Board of Directors,” said David Fraher, president & CEO of Arts Midwest. “George’s dedication to the arts, his knowledge of the creative landscape in Wisconsin, and his experience working across the field make him an important addition to our Board.”

As executive director of the Wisconsin Arts Board, Tzougros works with the creative industries, Wisconsin Arts Board members and staff, the Governor of Wisconsin, and the state legislature to create funding programs and services to meet the needs of the people of Wisconsin.

He is a member of the Governor’s Council on Tourism and the Cultural Coalition of Wisconsin; chair of the National Creativity Network; co-founder of the Wisconsin Science Festival; board member of the Robert E. Gard Wisconsin Idea Foundation; and Past President of both Wisconsin/Chiba Incorporated and Film Wisconsin. In 2019, he was awarded the Michael Newton Award from Americans for the Arts.

George Tzougros has served as executive director of the Arts Board since 1996; prior to that, he served for four years as the Arts Board’s Assistant Director, and was responsible for arts education, community arts development, and presenting and touring.
