Sofi and the Baladis arrived in Marietta to find their hotel on the banks of the Ohio River. A lovely location and a lovely way to start the week. It wasn’t uncommon to start the morning with a walk along the river path and views like this!

But the work got underway quickly. Sofi and the guys sat down with Emily Votaw from WOUB and had a nice conversation. We’re always glad for the media’s interest in our ensembles. Click this link if you would like to listen!

From there it was off to a string of workshops not only in the community but beyond as well. The ensemble had a great visit to Veritas Academy as this photo attests.

Marietta’s four elementary schools (Putnam, Harmar, Washington and Phillips) nearly filled Peoples Bank Theatre for a school concert that was so much fun for the ensemble and the students.

Afterwards, the ensemble took time for a shot with all the students and with the staff from Peoples Bank. Left to right is Hunt Brawley from Peoples Bank, Yossi, Yaniv, Sofi, Yonnie, Yshai, and also from Peoples Bank, Chuck Swaney, and Bradford Smith. Along with Drew, the folks at Peoples Bank did a wonderful job hosting the ensemble and we are most grateful.

The ensemble got to meet people of all ages during the week. The last workshop of the residency took place at Glenwood Senior Center where we enjoyed a wonderful connection. Here’s the ensemble in the workshop:

And here’s the an example of one lovely connection afterwards. This is Sofi with a new admiring friend, Vera.

And Yonnie got to meet Chuck’s mom on a visit to The O’Neil Center earlier in the week.

The public concert was lots of fun with one quartet of folks who drove 60 miles for the chance to hear Sofi and the guys. These folks attended previous World Fest concerts by Manhu and Ondekoza and plan to catch Unni Boksasp and her ensemble when they’re in town next year. A fun week in Marietta!
