Arts Midwest invites proposals from nonprofit professional theater companies for Shakespeare for a New Generation, part of the NEA’s Shakespeare in American Communities national initiative.
Approximately 40 theater companies will receive matching grants to perform works by Shakespeare for middle- and high-school students between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011. Applicant review will be based on artistic excellence and artistic merit. The matching grants will support performances and educational activities for students from a minimum of 10 schools.
To be eligible, an applicant must:
- Be a nonprofit 501(c)3) organization.
- Be a professional U.S.-based theater company.
- Have a minimum of three years’ experience working with schools or school districts to provide performances of Shakespeare or classically-based repertoire for middle- and/or high-school students.
Deadline for applications is January 20, 2010.
