New NEA study reports increase in literary reading

A new study by the National Endowment for the Arts reports that literary reading is on the rise for the first time in more than 25 years. The survey showed the largest increase in American adults reading literature in the 18-24 year-old demographic. The current Chairman of the NEA, poet Dana Gioia, cites the report as evidence that, “Cultural decline is not inevitable.” Programs like the NEA’s The Big Read have really helped to keep reading alive in our communities.
