Over the past decade, Kayla Schubert (Citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe) has devoted her career to the arts as a curator, educator, entrepreneur, advocate for emerging artists, and business of art consultant. She currently serves as Program Manager for Arts Midwest. Previously, Kayla worked with the MacRostie Art Center as Gallery Director. Kayla has been in-residence at the Banff Centre, serves on the Grand Rapids Arts and Culture Commission, and is a trustee with the Blandin Foundation.
Early in her career Kayla focused on understanding the relationship between public education and the arts related to Social Emotional Learning. She has continued to build upon this foundation in her current role by cultivating emerging artists and generating opportunities for them to exhibit their work and develop their portfolios. Kayla has monitored and evaluated community public art plans as a city commissioner. She has been a fellow with the Intercultural Leadership Institute, and is vice chair of the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council Board of Directors.
Kayla holds a BA in psychology and American Indian studies from St. Cloud State University and has studied arts administration at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities.
