Flávia Bastos is a Brazilian native who lives and works in Cincinnati. She is Professor in Visual Art Education in the School of Art, Design, Architecture, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati. She also directs the Art Futures Program, a community-based partnership that prepares local youth through the process of socially engaged art to consider professional careers and college opportunities. Her scholarship is indebted to her Brazilian roots, experiences with social and cultural diversity, and is inspired by the educational philosophy of educator Paulo Freire. Her art education practice is fueled by a commitment to engender transformative educational practices that honor the artistic potential and celebrate the possibilities and talents of all people.
