From September 7—10, performing arts professionals from the across the United States, Canada, and beyond came together in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the 24th annual Midwest Arts Conference. Once again, this year’s Conference offered participants significant opportunities to strengthen their professional knowledge and build the relationships necessary for bringing arts to audiences. The Conference was attended by more than 960 individuals from 267 arts presenting organizations/venues and 261 exhibiting organizations (including performing artists/ensembles, managers, agencies, and arts service organizations).
With more than 100 live performances — panel-selected, sponsored, and independently produced — the Conference continued to be a prime opportunity for artists to be seen and for presenters to see a wide variety of work; at more than 50 seminars, workshops, roundtable discussions, consultations, and service organization and presenter network meetings, participants had ample opportunities to learn new skills and gain valuable insights into issues relevant to the field.
In addition, on September 8, Arts Midwest had the pleasure of welcoming marketing guru Seth Godin to the Conference. In his keynote address, Invisible or Remarkable?, Godin shared strategies for marketing, leadership, overcoming our fear of failure, and quitting. His dynamic presentation highlighted successes and failures in new communication and new marketing, and challenged attendees to think big and take risks when leading their organizations. Godin’s presentation was well-received by more than 1,000 Conference attendees and Minneapolis-St. Paul arts marketers and leaders, who attended the event as part of Arts Midwest’s Arts Learning Xchange program.
