The Power of Data: "Big Lists"

On May 20, 2011, this metro-wide workshop engaged in a conversation about “Big Lists.” By the end of this session, Twin Cities arts marketers and professionals were be able to answer the questions: What is a “Big List?” and What can my organization do with them?

Arts and Cultural Community Databases (sometimes referred to as “Big Lists”) are collaborative programs that many cities have developed to make audience development initiatives better informed and more effective while saving time and money.

Through the aggregation of all arts patronage within a market, participating organizations can better understand the health, vitality and profile of the arts and cultural ecosystem. An organization can contextualize their audience within the ecosystem, enabling better decision-making on best prospects. These programs provide best practice list management services like National Change of Address (NCOA) and merge/purge of mailing lists at below market rates that can reduce organizational marketing expenses. They also facilitate list exchanges among participating organizations so acquisition of targeted prospect lists can happen quickly and efficiently.

“Big List” organizational and funding models vary widely from community to community. Come hear from the nation’s two leading providers of these services – Enertex Marketing and TRG Arts – share their experience-based insights, then engage in a community conversation to discuss whether a Big List is right for the Twin Cities arts and cultural community.
