Tom Benson is president of Benson Communications, a custom publishing business he started in 1998. He also owns Travelhost Twin Cities magazine. Formerly the founding publisher of Midwest Living magazine for the Meredith Corporation, he has started many businesses and publications for clients and corporations throughout his career. Tom holds a journalism degree from Iowa State University and completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School. He is also a Bush Foundation fellow. A member of the board of directors of the Iowa Barn Foundation, Tom has been a vocal advocate for barn preservation, as well as development of cultural tourism as an economic benefit to rural communities and small towns of the Midwest. As publisher of Midwest Living magazine, he initiated the magazine’s Home Town Pride Awards Program. He personally collects primitive farm tools and implements, has a farm getaway in Iowa, and reads, travels and collects art as hobbies.
